This competition-winning design creates a universally accessible farewell space for the municipal cemetery of Hogerlucht. The circular concrete structure integrates memorial facilities within natural hillside topography, serving over 100 people whilst maintaining an intimate, contemplative atmosphere. The project addresses religious diversity through universal symbolism – circular form representing eternal cycles, water element suggesting transition, and natural light marking seasonal remembrance patterns. Though unexecuted due to municipal budget constraints, the design demonstrates an architectural approach to sacred space that transcends specific belief systems whilst respecting established cemetery traditions and landscape context.
